When you are born again, the Holy Spirit comes to live within you. He is your Comforter, Teacher, and Guide. As you become conscious of His presence, you learn to listen to Him in everyday life.
That does not mean the flesh never gets in the way. We all have thoughts and emotions that can run ahead of us. We must choose whether to feed those impulses or follow the Spirit. As the Bible teaches, sowing to the flesh brings corruption, while sowing to the Spirit brings life everlasting.
The Holy Spirit helps us recognize when something is wrong. You may be about to say something and sense an inward restraint. You may be about to make a decision and feel a check in your heart: “Don’t do that.” Learn to pay attention. He is helping you.
We are not perfect. Sometimes we speak too quickly and hurt someone. But the Holy Spirit continues to correct and guide us. Because we love the Lord, we want to respond to Him.
There are also times when His presence touches us deeply. I have lain before God and wept until there were no tears left. It felt as though He was working within me, removing things that needed to go. When I got up, I felt washed on the inside, and He filled me with joy. That was very different from simply feeling sorry for myself.
The Holy Spirit also helps us when we do not know how to pray as we ought. We have a wonderful connection with the Father through the One who lives within us.
The Father has called you His child and placed His Spirit within you. Listen when He corrects you. Receive His comfort. Allow Him to guide your thoughts, words, and decisions. As you become more conscious of His presence, you learn to walk by the Spirit rather than be controlled by the flesh.
God bless you richly
